Some questions about functionality

Hi everyone,

I have a couple of ideas for which I think I need something like Cyclos. However, I am not sure if it has the particular functionalities I need, "out of the box" or after additional configuration.

I have this (not too crazy) idea to found a new town in Outback Australia which will be "Ancient" in ideology and technology (see http://www.romaiv.com for the idea), and as part of that will use its own currency. Within the place there will obviously be coins only (I already have a sample of these). Externally, it needs an online bank. So, the questions:

- can I connect Cyclos to an online shop where, when the user decides to buy something, he can press a button to pay using his Cyclos account balance?
- can I have a currency unit where the "small change" is not 1/100 of the big unit (e.g. - one dollar is 100 cents, but I want for example one denarius to be 16 sestertii or something of the kind)?
- can I have something like cheques, where one user pays another more money than he actually has in his account, so that the other user receives the money but it is not "available" yet and can only be used when the cheque "clears" (the first user gets enough money to cover it)?

Also, a technical question - I downloaded the software to try it, but I only run the "stand alone" version on my laptop (Ubuntu). It runs, but in the admin panel I cannot add/edit currencies and other things, while I can edit/delete ads for example - is this because it is not running from a database, or is it an interface problem (I cannot highlight/edit the text in the forms)?

1. You can use the webshop payment webservice to connect Cyclos to an online shop. It works very much like PayPal. See example, here: http://www.cyclos.org/wiki/index.php?ti ... op_payment but also see my forum post, which corrects the code so it actually works, here: http://www.cyclos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1510

2. Not easily, but we have managed to kludge it by limiting input in the payment fields to specific values (for example, for a time-based currency, we limited input to values incrementing in .25 steps). I don't know if this is going to be available in Cyclos 4 - maybe someone from Stro can respond.

3. You can have accounts with credit limits, loans and so forth, to accomplish this - but I don't think the system has the concept of funds being "available" or not. Again, I may stand corrected by someone more knowledgeable than me!

Regarding your problems with the standalone installation, this sounds like the administrator account you are using doesn't have enough rights to edit currencies. Either that, or you have not clicked the "change" button which makes the fields editable? (Sorry if I'm stating the obvious here!).
